Admin/Biographical History |
The first sheriff of Lancaster County was appointed on May 8, 1729. Following writs from the Prothonotary office, the sheriff office seizes property for unpaid debts. After every sheriff sale a deed is given to the purchaser by the Sheriff. Until 1850, the Sheriff was in complete charge of the county prison. |
